Microsoft licencie

Due to the extensive and sometimes complex issue of licensing the Microsoft Software company in the cloud environment, here are a few examples of how to license the software for the operation of customer projects offered in the SPLA program.

Microsoft

Licensing program SPLA

Licensing in the form of SPLA is part of our cloud services. We are partners of Microsoft under the Microsoft Service Provider License Agreement, which enables us to license Microsoft products in order to provide services and host applications.

The operating system licence

Product Group Windows Server 2016 provides a choice of two editions, Datacentre Edition and Standard Edition. Licensing Models differ on the level of virtualization rights. The basic Standard Edition provides two virtual instances.

Each license covers up to two physical processors on a single server. The minimum number of licenses required for each server is determined by the number of physical processors. The Standard Edition allows you to add additional virtual instances so that the server is assigned an additional license. For each license two incremental virtual instances are added.

As our customer, included in Standard Edition cloud services laaS is available for you.

Examples of licensing Required Standard licences
One 1-processor non-virtualized server 1
One 2-processor non-virtualized server 1
One 4-processor non-virtualized server 2
One 2-processor server with 3 virtual environments 2
One 2-processor server with 12 virtual environments 6

Licencences for client access

The Windows Server Standard Edition and Windows Server Datacenter Edition require CAL licences for Windows Server for each user or device that directly or indirectly access the server. The External Connector licence is intended for all external users accessing the server, which is assigned to a physical server, and covers all of the servers running under this hardware.

In the Standard version, the Customer has one available access to the virtual server for an administrator. It is therefore necessary to keep the licensing model: Processor + CAL for correct licensing.

Licence transfer with Licency Mobility

In the event that a customer wants to use their own properly licensed and supported (eg. SQL Server Standard, System Center Service Manager 2010 etc.) software on the rented virtual server, the Customer may exercise the right of License Mobility. They must also have an active Software Assurance program and their own previously purchased licenses may subsequently be transferred to the rented virtual server. ZONER enables maximum use of these advantages and is listed on the Authorized Mobility Partners List.

Licence MS SQL database

We provide three versions of the database server. Here is basic information about each version:

Express edition: Basic edition, which is for free, but offers only limited functionality. Specifically the maximum capacity of the database is 10GB and the number of processors is limited to one.

Web edition: It is a version primarily meant for operating and supporting web pages, web applications and web services. All the content has to be accessible to the public from the Internet, at the same time the content must not be limited to employees of the company (Intranet, LOB). This edition must not be used to support business applications (CRM, ERM etc.).

Standard edition: The edition is meant for operating basic database functionalities, including limited possibilities BI.

The Standard Edition can be licensed according to two models: Server + CAL or the number of cores used. In the Server + CAL model, it is necessary for a server's licence to cover all servers with running instances of SQL Server. Counting the necessary amount of licences in the model based on the number of cores differs based on whether the instance of SQL Server will be run in a physical or a virtual environment. In a physical environment, it is necessary to license all the available physical cores of the server, at least four cores for one physical processor. In the case of a virtual environment, the licence has to cover all virtual cores, which are used by the given instance of a virtual machine. Four licences are again the minimum.
